The book collection counts ca 13,000 books (in majority the books are old and worn ones) and is divided into the next branches:

- Lexicons, encyclopaedias, dictionaries (for use on the spot).

- Literary studies.

- Methodological teaching aids.

- Obligatory school readers.

- Polish classic literature.

- World prose literature.

- Poetry and drama.

- Historical books.

- Biographies of famous people.

- Studies on the arts (music, plastic arts).

- Religion studies.

- Tourist guides.

- Studies on sports matters.

- Books applying to nature.

- Fiction for girls.

- Fiction for boys.

- Fantasy.

- Books concerning computer science.

- Textbooks (gimnazjum level) for students and teachers.

- Canon of reading materials for primary school.

- English fiction in Eng. (a dozen or so items).

In connection with our reform of education the library reprofiles the book collection - not actual books are erased or donated to friendly primary school.

We collect the methodological and popular science periodicals. The periodicals for the youth are bought as they come (for use on the spot). We also have 52 audio cassettes, 242 video cassettes and 41 computer programmes. Directly in the library there are not any computers (the lend system and catalogues are traditional), tape/video recorders and TV sets as well.

Our readers: the students (527 ones) aged 13-16, the teachers of our school (55 people), other school workers.

The students can borrow books for the period of two weeks, the teachers can borrow them as a deposit (to subject workshops) for the whole school year. Should the need arise, for the teachers we also borrow books from other school libraries.

The staff of our library consists of two librarians who work full time (30 h a week). They are fully qualified - they have library and pedagogical competence as well as basic ability to use a computer.

The library is open every day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (ex. Wednesdays because of inner works). The reading room is open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The students who don't participate in religion lessons stay under librarians care (within tasks of care activities).

In the framework of reading/medial education the school runs lessons in the library; such lessons are also organised in libraries of other schools and literary museums as well.

The library also organises, in co-operation with some teachers, different kinds of competitions in reading and plastic arts.

The school community is informed about the reading-ratio among students; there is also information about new books that have been bought for the library.

Following the ecological education the library organises at school the collection of recycling paper (picked up by relevant firm) - in exchange for office materials.

Now, in our opinion, we should put an emphasis on the promotion of traditional book. We attempt the youth to become interested in reading and we buy, among others, books with up-to-date subjects.

Our call: READING IS NECESSARY!
